The redesign of the Singapore Art Museum was driven by the need for additional exhibition space. A large, column-free volume was floated above the existing courtyard of the former St. Joseph’s Institution, allowing for expansive contemporary art displays while preserving the historic building. The courtyard below was transformed into a light-filled indoor event space with a suspended glass façade. The new floating volume features reflective glass panels that create dynamic reflections of the historical dome. The main entrance was moved to Queen Street, enhancing pedestrian access and creating a new plaza that connects to the 8Q annex building and integrates the two properties with a bridge.
