Soori Bali

This high-end resort hotel in Bali features a seamless mix of traditional and modern design elements. The lighting design for this project has evolved over the life of the resort, reacting to the changing landscape and updates to the interiors, tying newer and older elements together with high-quality integration details and a warm, inviting lit effect. One of the main goals of the project is to create and maintain a sustainable design. The transition to low-power lighting has been a crucial element of the resort's ongoing upkeep, ensuring that lighting quality is preserved as newer technology and design elements are introduced.

La Cadiere Plot 1

A large-scale landscape project for a group of residential towers in Chengdu, China, the lighting played a key role in helping to define the use of spaces within the development. SCDA used flood lighting to highlight circulation, and tree up-lighting and architectural details to create a more intimate mood in the social spaces. The main challenge for this project was to scale down the lighting so that areas requiring more contrast at night still felt intimate and balanced within a large-scale landscape. The warmth of the lighting throughout the project helped make the spaces feel cozier, while cool white accents on water features added interest and contrast to the design.

Chinese Chamber of Commerce

Finalizing the lighting for this full building renovation and extension in Singapore gave SCDA the opportunity to have a real impact on the design, ensuring that the high quality of detailing and finish was achieved. The lighting was used to create a sense of arrival at the drop-off and main atrium spaces by enhancing the architectural and interior features designed by the SCDA teams. Great emphasis was placed on site mock-ups and final adjustments to details and lighting control to achieve the high-end look required for this important building. It was essential in the detailing to respect the traditional and modern mix of architecture while enhancing it in a way that was beautiful, impactful, and discreet.

Cuscaden Reserve

The lighting design for this residential development in Singapore was led by the strong architectural elements of the building and the softer landscaping designed by SCDA. The trees and natural elements utilize a combination of spotlighting and lighting details to create a soft, inviting effect. The large backlit light feature and façade lighting create a sense of arrival at the main lobby drop-off while maintaining the clean design of the building and interiors. Warmer lighting tones are used throughout the project to enhance the richness of the materials, with clever detailing to help reduce the visual impact of the fittings. SCDA’s lighting has enhanced the design and created a different experience when transitioning from day to night.

Llora

A beautifully designed minimal space for this high-end boutique store in Raffles, Singapore, required a light touch, with a strong emphasis on detailing to ensure the products were lit in a way that enhances but does not overpower. SCDA uses minimal downlighting to provide general illumination to the store, along with intelligent integrated shelving details to highlight the products without a direct view of the fittings themselves. The use of color temperature was important, with cooler lighting to make the products pop in the display areas against a warmer backdrop for the architectural and FF&E lighting, which helps create a softer feeling in the space.

Ming Arcade

This new building development off Orchard Road in Singapore is designed to create presence on the existing small plot of land. The lighting design has been developed to enhance the verticality of the building using well-designed integration details to ensure that the lighting complements the architecture without overpowering it. More intimate spaces at the lower levels are accentuated by lighting that adapts through color temperature and contrast, providing a seamless link between the interior and exterior designs of the project.

Mumbai House

This large apartment project in central Mumbai, India, has fine art at its core. The client has an extensive collection of well-curated artworks that will be displayed throughout the two-floor apartment. The challenge for the lighting design is to provide accent to the artwork while also making the space feel like a home. The design team will achieve this through flexible lighting systems and controls, ensuring the lighting can adapt to how the spaces are used and any changes in the artwork display. The lighting and interior design teams have worked closely to minimize the visual impact of the fittings, using integration details and carefully coordinated fitting placement.

Poise

An intimate Michelin-starred restaurant in Singapore offers a balanced and quiet interior designed to showcase the food. The challenge for the lighting was to create an intimate ambiance while ensuring the elegant dishes could be fully appreciated. SCDA design teams achieved this by employing minimal downlighting and rechargeable tabletop lamps to bring light down to table level. Warm color tones were used throughout, with accents on materials and design features to create contrast and visual interest in this minimal space.

The Quayside

This mixed-use development in Robertson Quay, Singapore, designed by SCDA Architects, features lighting heavily influenced by the elegant structures and materials crafted by the architectural teams. Integrated linear lighting was used to emphasize the statement linear structure that spans the interior of the covered square. The main challenge was ensuring a cohesive design language throughout the project, as the various restaurants and bars extend into the communal spaces. This was achieved by utilizing a very warm color temperature, maintaining a consistent and inviting lit effect across the entire development.

Soori High Line

A high-end residential development near New York’s High Line utilized lighting to elevate its already luxurious design. The lighting created a sleek yet homely ambiance in the apartments by integrating linear fittings into shelving elements, resulting in large feature lighting walls. The pools were illuminated to evoke an indoor-outdoor connection, with the movement of water reflecting into the apartments at night. Overall, the lighting achieved a warm and elegant effect, complementing the rich materials and stunning interiors throughout the development.

Soori Khoo Kongsi

A new hotel development in Penang, Malaysia, this project brings the high-end interiors of the Soori brand to a beautiful boutique hotel. The lighting plays a key role in highlighting and creating contrast while using subtle integration details to accentuate materials. The interiors blend traditional and modern elements, with the lighting capturing this mix by using minimal spotlighting and relying on beautifully designed FF&E elements to create a more comfortable atmosphere. Artworks and features are highlighted to enhance the play of light and shadow in these elegantly designed interiors.
