National Design Centre

Singapore
2011
The National Design Centre, located in the Bras Basah art and conservation district, revitalizes an existing building with an innovative design. It features four translucent boxes arranged to form interconnected spaces around a central atrium, enhancing public engagement and activating the central courtyard. These boxes, separate from the original façade, filter natural light into gallery spaces and complement the conserved exterior. The ground level includes public facilities such as a bistro café and exhibition spaces, linking the street to the central courtyard. An open landscaped terrace on the roof offers a quiet space for reflection. At night, the illuminated design adds vibrancy to the arts precinct.
